daysofasinger: Since you're the only person I follow who watches both Sherlock and Elementary, I need your advice. I convinced my stepmom to watch one of them, but I can't decide which to have her watch. She's not a huge murder mystery person, but I told her about the deductive reasoning part and she was somewhat interested. Keeping in mind it will just be the first episode, which one should I have her watch?
Okay, that is super tough.
If she is only going to watch the first episode and not skip ahead at all, I would have to say Sherlock.
Only because the first episode (I feel) is stronger and a bit more compelling than Elementary’s first episode. I think Elementary really nailed its voice at the third episode mark.
When I’ve shown very picky friends both series I’ve actually started with Scandal in Belgravia (Sherlock s2e1) and the Child Predator (Elementarty Ep. 3) because I think the stories are well constructed, visually spot on, and usually encourage them to go back to the beginning and watch the series in its entirety.
Best of luck with your stepmom! Hopefully we can convert her.
